Now that we are back to grooming Sourdough, its time to for a quick reminder about trail etiquette on multi use winter trails. Sourdough is a heavily used trail, especially the bottom 2-3 miles and we all need work together to make it an enjoyable experience. Skiers, please slow down around blind corners and check your speed on steep downhills, especially coming back down towards the bottom, between mile 3 and the trail head. Walkers and runners, please stay on the right hand edge on the way up and to your left along the edge as you come back down. This leaves the center for skate skiers, who are generally moving faster, and the classic tracks for classic skiers. Please do not walk or run on the set classic track. Foot prints are not fun to ski over and are often difficult to groom out.

Be sure to keep your dogs close and under control and pick up after them! There is a dog waste station at the trail head for your convenience.

The groomed ski trail is closed to bikes until after grooming ends, per the Forest Service Travel Plan.

Sourdough is a wonderful place to recreate; several of the groomers ski there regularly. Grooming the entire system is nearly 30 miles, usually done with two machines, and it is not uncommon to have to repeat sections of the trail in one grooming shift, whether for soft snow or for icy snow. Because of this, we often groom the trail in sections, so the whole thing may not be groomed every time but in general, we will try to get things shaped up for weekends. So, get out and enjoy the snow on this gem of a trail! The plan is to set classic tracks to at least Wildhorse junction if not all the way to Mystic Lake on Sunday morning. Moser is a bit rutted and rough and will be quite soft; we will try to shape it up in the next couple days.

Groomer Joel went for a ski after he finished grooming and said the classic skiing was nice! There is a definite crown to the trail above the bridge; there are old ruts under the snow that will fill in as we groom and as we get more snow.

Weekly general reminder: foot traffic is not allowed on the in town ski trails. Skiers, if you see walkers or runners on the trails, please have a polite chat with them about this and what there alternative trails in the area may be. We all need to be ambassadors.
