SOREN JOSEPH HARTNETT LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On July 18, 2020, the Bozeman Nordic community suffered the tragic loss of a vibrant teammate and friend, Soren Hartnett, age 16. An undiagnosed heart condition caused a cardiac event while Soren was training with his BSF teammates. (Read news release.) His family has created a legacy scholarship fund to benefit skiers with BSF Nordic and Crosscut Biathlon.

This fund is in memory of Soren Joseph Hartnett, son of Mary and Douglas and brother to Rowland. Soren started biathlon at age 8 to be with his buddies, and this grew into a passion for Nordic skiing. He put all of his energy into it and was on a team representing the United States in biathlon in Norway. He pushed himself constantly and kept at it even when competing against 1100 Norwegians! He died at age 16 while doing what he loved most, training with his Nordic skiing teammates. Soren was an incredible connection, bringing together the entire local ski community.

This fund will support scholarships for both Bridger Ski Foundation Nordic and Crosscut Biathlon.

The Soren Joseph Hartnett Legacy Scholarship Fund offers a variety of scholarships to U14-U20 Nordic athletes who are registered in programs through the Bridger Ski Foundation or Crosscut.  Scholarships are awarded twice per year, first in June and again in November.  Applications are reviewed by Doug Hartnett, Mary O’Rourke and the Program Directors of BSF and Crosscut.

Program Scholarships: Program scholarships are applied directly to BSF or Crosscut program fees.  Scholarships range from $500 - $2000 and will be paid directly to BSF or Crosscut to offset the cost of tuition.  Application Deadline is June 1st with scholarships awarded on June 15th.

Athlete Need Scholarships:  Need-based scholarships are paid directly to the athlete with the intention of being used to purchase equipment or offset costs associated with race trips or camps.  Scholarships range from $500 - $1000.  Application deadline is November 1st with scholarships awarded on November 15th.
