1. Always book refundable lodging! Races get cancelled for no snow, too much snow, too warm, too cold, broken equipment, the list goes on. Make sure the lodging can be cancelled as close to the date of the race as possible – a month before is not that helpful, but a day or two before will save you.
2. Book your lodging for the whole season NOW. Some of the common lodging choices were already filling up and it is only October. Lodging prices go up as the hotel gets filled, so the best rates are going to be found sooner rather than later. If you follow tip#1 and your plans change, then no problem the reservation can be cancelled.
3. Find other families who can share lodging with you or take your child. A double queen room works great for two moms and two kids (for example) to share.
