UPDATE No. 2: Some tiller issues on the Pisten Bully prevented Highland Glen from being groomed Friday morning but we should be back in action now. The old snow surface is rock hard but the new snow should set up for some nice skiing. Sourdough groomed out very nicely and it should set up for a very nice packed powder surface for the weekend. It was snowing lightly as I finished up but we are back to having a nice trail surface over the icy, old snow. There are some thin spots, please be careful where the icy snow is exposed and on the steeper downhills. For the most part, classic tracks set very well, starting at mile 1. Tracks are set up both the Mystic and Moser legs but the Moser side turned out much better.
The Forest Service groomed Hyalite Friday as well and reports that the trails are looking very good. Expect the road to be icy but the skiing to be good!
UPDATE: we will be grooming Sunset Hills, Highland Glen (possibly) and Bridger Creek this morning and skiing should be quite nice. Sourdough will be groomed tonight and the small loops will be done as machinery and personnel allow (Saturday, hopefully).
Here is the plan for Friday morning work: if it is actively snowing in the morning, we will wait until either the snow tapers off or evening to groom. If it is not snowing, Sunset Hills and Highland Glen will get a good tilling from the Pisten Bully and we will do what we can with snowmobiles at our other venues. Updates will be posted as they come in from groomers and as the weather develops. Regardless, we will have a very hard, icy base on all of our trails. Please ski carefully.
Just a reminder, even though it got warm and we did loose some snow, the trails are still ski trails and are not open to foot traffic and dogs (except for Sourdough). If you see people out walking the in town ski trails, please politely ask them to go elsewhere; there are relatively few miles of maintained ski trails in comparison to the miles on miles of trails that can be walked, even in winter.
