The Bridger Ski Foundation recently completed the purchase of a new Pisten Bully 600 Polar Winch Cat, extending its trail grooming season into the late spring and summer by enabling access to higher elevation terrain.
“This is unprecedented in the Nordic ski world”, said Evan Weiss, BSF’s Executive Director. “Normally our town trails melt out by early March- this equipment will enable us to continue grooming in the higher elevations, set tracks and lay perfect corduroy on slope angles exceeding 60 degrees.”
BSF Pro Team head coach Andy Newell had this to say about the new equipment: “One thing we’ve been pushing for is better training on more challenging terrain to be able to compete on the World Cup level.”
Not everyone was thrilled about the purchase, initially.
“It didn’t fit the bill for any Nordic ski area, let alone a community-funded trails program”, said BSF Trails Director, Dan Cantrell. “But then, I realized we're gonna get to drive this thing… And let’s be honest, it’s pretty awesome. Once that sunk-in, I was for it 100%”
Permitting is underway to allow grooming to the top of Granite Peak at 12,807 feet in elevation, the highest point in Montana.
