First On Snow Training Camp!

Welcome back to another addition of the BSF Pro Team blog! The team is fresh out of our first training camp on snow, and our last training camp before the racing season begins with period 1 Supertours kicking off in Duluth MN, and Cable WI!

Last week the team was in Canmore, Alberta for the Frozen Thunder skiing event. There was a 2.5 K look of man made snow that the team was able to grind laps on! The first three days of camp were all focused on two time trials for all athletes in Canmore. The first was a 10k classic technique individual start, and the following day was a 15k freestyle technique time trial. The conditions of the man made snow held up well from the week before and allowed for some classic klister skiing. The tracks were firm and fast, and it was all about smooth fast skiing throughout the race.

If you have been following along with the BSF Pro Team this summer and fall, you know we have been working very hard and training very smart. Our efforts finally proved true when first year BSF Pro Team member, Ried “the Gobbler” Goble, won the race by 2 seconds over US Ski Team D team member, Johnny Hagenbuch. Another notable finish was Lauren Jortberg finishing in third place, only 2 seconds from second!

The team was able to keep the ball rolling the next morning for the skate race. Mariah Bredal landed on the podium in third place, and Hannah Rudd was 6th. In the men's race, Reid led the boys with a third place finish and myself was only seven seconds back in 5th! I had taken the previous week off for a minor heart procedure. More on that later.

As the time trials wrapped up, it was time for the team to focus on getting quality time on snow, technique work, and ski testing. The team spent each morning doing no pole skiing, and other drills. It was a great way to quickly change habits built from a long summer and fall of roller skiing.

The final day of camp the team woke up to a lovely surprise of 8 inches of snow and it was still snowing! The team headed out to Lake Louise for one final adventure ski! With races just around the corner, the team is excited and ready to show what we have been up to and hopefully land some more podium finishes! Stay tuned.
