May - early April. Year-round training and racing program available for older junior and senior athletes. These programs are designed to develop and maximize skiers’ potential by providing a structured year-round training program. The Elite Program has three levels with varying criteria; athletes must apply for placement. Support and funding varies from level to level:

LEVEL 1 - International Athlete: BSF provides support for coaching, waxing, travel, camps, lodging and board.

LEVEL 2 - National/International Athlete: BSF provides support for coaching, waxing, camps, lodging.

LEVEL 3 - National Athlete: BSF provides support for coaching and waxing.

General Requirements

Participation Requirement:

  • Summer, fall, and winter training
  • Summer, fall, and winter camps
  • Local, regional, national and international races

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel with the BSF team to races, camps and training
  • Race under the BSF name and compete in a BSF racing suit

Training Requirements:

  • Train with the team a minimum 3 times a week
  • Work with the BSF coach on training and race schedule

Other Requirements:

  • Do testing and time trials  
  • Participation in BSF events
  • Fundraising events (Ski Ball, Banff Film Festival, Ski Swap, Jim Bridger Trail Run)
  • Promoting skiing - skiing with juniors and masters, help with waxing clinics, and etc.

LEVEL 1, INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE

Expected results:

  • (Europa Cup, WC, World Championship, Olympics)
  • Podium finishes at Senior Nationals and Canadian Nationals
  • Podium finishes at Super Tour and NorAm

Requirements for Level 1 Status:

  • Demonstrated ability for international excellence and proven results from international XC ski events, such as Europa Cup, World Championships, and Olympics. The skiers should have podium finishes at Senior Nationals or Canadian Nationals, and podium finishes at Super Tour and NorAm events.
  • Demonstrated drive towards personal excellence and the BSF Nordic philosophy.  Commitment to living in Bozeman in order to participate in training at least 3 times per week, travel with the BSF team to races, camps, and training, and race as a member of the BSF Nordic team with a BSF team racing suit.
  • Participate in BSF fundraising events such as Auction, Banff Film Festival, Ski Swap, and the Jim Bridger Trail Run.
  • Prepare a long term personal and athletic plan. Work with the BSF coach on training and race schedule; participate in time trials and fitness testing.

Benefits for Level 1 Status:

  • Year-round coaching & waxing support; team and individual workouts; training program design and guidance, and fitness testing.
  • Travel and camp cost covered by BSF.

LEVEL 2, NATIONAL/INTERNATIONAL ATHLETE

Expected results:

  • Top 10 finishes at Senior Nationals and Canadian Nationals
  • Top 5 finishes at Super Tour and NorAm
  • Podium finishes at Mass races
  • Qualify for National World Cup quota

Requirements for Level 2 Status:

  • Proven results from national XC ski events, such as Senior Nationals and Super Tour.  Athletes should have top 10 finishes at Senior Nationals, Canadian Nationals, Super Tour and NorAm, and podium finishes at Mass races.  They must also qualify for National World Cup quota.
  • Demonstrated drive towards personal excellence and the BSF Nordic philosophy. Commitment to living in Bozeman in order to participate in training at least 3 times per week, travel with the BSF team to races, camps, and training, and race as a member of the BSF Nordic team with a BSF team racing suit.
  • Participate in BSF fundraising events such as Ski Ball, Banff Film Festival, Ski Swap, and the Jim Bridger Trail Run.
  • Prepare a long-term personal and athletic plan. Work with the BSF coach on training and race schedules; participate in time trials and fitness testing.

Benefits for the Level 2 Status:

  • Year round coaching & waxing support; team and individual workouts, training program design and guidance, and fitness testing.
  • Eligible for travel grants for camps, based on availability of funds.
  • Priority for advancing to Level 1 status is given based on personal and athletic development.

LEVEL 3, NATIONAL ATHLETE

Expected Results:

  • Top 20 finishes at Senior Nationals and Canadian Nationals
  • Top 15 finishes at Super Tour and NorAm
  • Ranked in the top 10 overall in Super Tour

Requirements for Level 3 Status:

  • Top 20 finishes at Senior Nationals or Canadian Nationals, top 15 finishes at SuperTour or NorAm.  Athlete must be ranked top 10 overall in the SuperTour.
  • Demonstrated drive towards personal excellence and the BSF Nordic philosophy.  Commitment to living in Bozeman in order to participate in training at least 3x per week, travel with the BSF team to races, camps, and training, and race as a member of the BSF Nordic team with a BSF team racing suit.
  • Participate in BSF fundraising events such as Ski Ball, Banff Film Festival, and the Jim Bridger Trail Run.
  • Prepare a long-term personal and athletic plan.  Work with the BSF coach on training and race schedules, participate in time trials and fitness testing.

Benefits for Level 3 Status:

  • Year-round coaching & waxing support, team and individual workouts, training program design and guidance, and fitness testing.
  • Priority for advancing to Level 2 status as personal and athletic development meet criteria.

APPLICATION PROCESS

If you are committed to maximizing your XC athletic abilities, would like to join the BSF Nordic community, and are ready to make Bozeman, Montana, your home for at least 3 years, then BSF Nordic would like to evaluate if our Elite Skier program is the best fit for your needs.  Prepare a statement that includes your personal and athletic goals for the next 3 years, and send along with complete bio, training information, former coaches/programs, etc.  Contact Dragan Danevski at dragandanevski@yahoo.com or (406)579-7874 for details.

* Please Note: Program fees include Bohart Season Pass for the athlete.  If you have bought a Bohart Season Pass separately, please contact the BSF Office (406-587-2445) after you have registered and we can adjust your program payment plan. 

PG TEAM COACH: Austin Caldwell

May - early April. This program is for: local high school post-graduates, out-of-town P-Gs (possibly taking classes at MSU), or MSU student athletes who do not make the MSU Team. The goal is to develop and maximize each skier’s potential, including possible qualification for Scandinavia Cup, World Juniors, and U23 Worlds.

Training is year-round, both group and individually based, and coaches will work with athletes to develop daily, weekly, and yearly plans, as well as training blocks and periods. Testing will be provided, including four field tests per year (time trials, lactate tests) and three lab tests per year (VO2max, lactate, anaerobic TH, max HR).

A summer-only option is available in for those athletes who will ONLY be in the Bozeman area during the summer (Mid-May - Mid-Aug) and does not include Canmore Camp.

COSTS
  • Year-round training  Mid-May - early April: $2,800
    (does not include Canmore Camp or Thanksgiving Camp). 

  • Summer dryland training ONLY (Mid-May - Mid-Aug): $1,100
    (does not include Canmore Camp)

Installments/partial-payment plan available: minimum $600 due upon registration

CAMPS

Camps are not included in year-round training costs. BSF offers is one dryland camp in Canmore, Alberta, in August, and two on-snow camps. Learn more about camps here.

Criteria for competing at National Level: High fitness level, excellent ski technique, high level of psycho-social abilities, motivated to compete at this level, responsible, and self-sufficient. 

Criteria for competing at International Level: Very high fitness level, superior ski technique, high psycho-social abilities, motivated for international success, conscious of level of competition.

TRAINING SCHEDULES:

Your coach(es) will send out weekly training schedules on Mondays. Schedule change announcements are emailed as needed.
