Dear BSF Family,
We are sad to learn of the passing of former Bozeman resident and Nordic skier Jon Engen. Jon, who resided in Ketchum, Idaho, died on April 26 at the age of 61 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jon was an MSU skier and graduate, a three-time Olympian, a multiple-time World Masters champion, and a BSF Masters coach. He was an important member of the Bozeman ski community and a huge supporter of BSF. His presence will be greatly missed.
Jon led a remarkable life and influenced thousands of skiers over the years. Jon's vision helped U.S. Nordic skiing tremendously, and he was a big part of the recent success of the U.S. Nordic ski team. Last week, U.S. Ski & Snowboard honored him with the prestigious Al Merrill Nordic Award for his exceptional level of commitment, leadership and devotion to excellence in Nordic skiing.
The Idaho Mountain Express ran a nice article on Jon's impact on the skiing community: click here to read. His obituary can be found here: https://www.mtexpress.com/obituaries/jon-rein-engen/article_99d3cdda-4d76-11e8-a10d-b79b739c03da.html
BSF's thoughts are with his family and friends. A summer memorial service will be held to celebrate Jon's life. Donations can be made to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Association in memory of Jon.
