SUNDAY UPDATE: It froze hard and fast last night without very much new snow. We will be out and about this morning getting things back into shape, starting with Sunset Hills/Highland Glen and Sourdough. Areas that have not been groomed will likely not be good skiing. The first mile of Sourdough is also likely to be water ice under the dusting of new snow. Updates will be posted as work is completed. check back soon!
Update: with the lack of freezing temperaturs since Thursday night and a lot of moisture, there isnt much for us to do. There may be some crusty patches but as a whole the snow is very soft.
The dog loop was in rough shape before this current warm up and I'm afraid it may be done for now. There was a lot of water ice in the portion lower down near the library and even if we get some snow tonight, that area will be a massive slush puddle until it freezes. So, we will see what the weather brings.
Right now, the skiing at our venues is very good, as is the crust cruising off trail! Classic tracks are a bit icy in places so a binder of some sort will do wonders for kick. There has been some minor drifting at our in town venues but it has not had an impact on the quality of the skiing. The dog loop is getting icey; the low side of the loop has a lot of water ice and there is not much we can do about that.
Looking at the weather forecast, it looks to be an active weather weekend. Since our trails are currently in good shape, we are going to wait and see what the weather brings before we do any grooming work. As of now, I anticipate grooming to happen both Saturday morning and Sunday morning at all of our venues. Stay tuned for updates!
