Weekend Update: We need snow, everywhere, that is the bottom line. Marcus and I rode to Mystic Lake from the Moser trail head today and there was barely enough snow for snowmobiles. We cleared some down trees and brush and moved a lot of rocks out of the trail. The cover is good in the few miles either side of the Bridge, but getting there is the problem. Anything that has seen sun has just a skiff of snow over rocks and deep ruts in the dirt.
Myself and Quint will be clearing down trees on the Hyalite trails Saturday and I expect a similar situation there. Until we get a few more inches of snow, there is very little we can do in the way of making quality skiing
Well, early November was a cruel tease. We lost everything we had in town and while this little bit of snow looks nice this morning, it wasnt enough to make good skiing again. I packed all of Sunset Hills this morning and even with 2 inches of snow, there is as much grass as snow still. There will be sections of tolerable skiing out there but as a whole it is pretty grim.
We are allowed to start grooming on Forest Service land at the end of this week, so check for updates on that. As of now, any work we do on Sourdough will be starting from the Moser Trailhead in Hyalite Canyon. By all accounts the first few miles from the Bozeman Creek trail head are either dirt, rocks, dog poop, or ice. The plan right now is to scout things out and clear trees on Friday after which we will decide whether it is worth grooming or not. We will also log out the Hyalite ski trails this weekend though I do not anticipate doing much in the way of grooming there. We did check out the Blackmore loops Monday and while it is groomable, it is quite bumpy and I hit a lot of rocks and logs.
Think snow, make offerings, do a dance...
