Grooming Update for 2/24

The past few days of warmer temps & winds were a good reminder that spring is just around the corner... and longer days make this one of the best times of the year in Montana. We can leave the headlamps at home, ski farther and get our vitamin D. It's also been a check on the snowpack at Highland Glen, and some of the other in-town ski venues where the base is still thin and starting to show bare ground and water ice in spots.

With any luck, we'll continue to pick up enough snow to maintain these areas and continue grooming. Despite the low-snow and late start to winter, with the new snowmaking loop, we've had reliable skiing in town since December 5th.

Big thanks and ongoing appreciation for all of the community support in making this happen during a challenging & especially important time for us to be able to get outside and ski.

Moving into March, we will continue regular grooming at all venues as conditions allow. This is typically 3 days a week at Highland Glen, Sourdough and Bridger Creek, and 4 Days at Sunset Hills, adjusted for new snowfall and pragmatism. As things melt out in town, grooming priority will shift to Sourdough and to the Outer snowmaking loop at Sunset Hills. While snowmaking operations concluded in January, there is a solid 1.3k loop that should stick around for a while.

A note on Sourdough: The first 2-3 miles are seeing increased traffic from all user groups, which will continue as the days get warmer and longer. It's our privilege to be in partnership with the USFS and Gallatin Valley Land Trust to have access and share stewardship of Sourdough Canyon/Bozeman Creek. Please continue to ski with smiles, care and anticipate off-leash dogs. Dog owners, please also continue to maintain control over your pets, pick up after and pack it out. Ski conditions will  be variable during the the first mile or two, but generally improve as you get higher up.

Happy trails!!
