The in-town ski venues took a hit this week with daytime temps into the mid 50's, and overnight temps cooling just enough to create significant ice dams on the trails and further complicate the grooming equation. The Sunset Hills outer snowmaking loop has the most consistent skiing and with the least number of water ponds, remains the most viable for grooming operations.
All-in-all, with some careful route planning, it's been great spring skiing for a few hours in the morning, transitioning to mashed potatoes by early afternoon, and with the added requirement of hip waders in a few spots!
The outlook for Highland Glen and Bridger Creek (Lower loops) is largely dependent on how things go this week. If it gets cold enough to freeze solid (including the lake and river crossings) and we can groom, we will continue to. Otherwise, the grooming focus for the rest of the month will shift toward maintaining the outer loop at Sunset Hills, and Sourdough.
