UPDATE 3: We just rolled most of Sourdough and there is a lot of snow above about mile 3. The ginzu almost made it to the bridge but we got it stuck when we stopped to cut a tree out, so there are tracks almost to the bridge, from the trail head. Above the bridge, conditions are extremely soft; it was all we could do to get the roller up some of the hills. Remember, this is just the initial packing of everything and there is a lot of new snow with now base below it for traction. We will let the upper portions of Sourdough set up and hopefully get a ginzu back up there in the next day or two. on the plus side, coverage is excellent
UPDATE 2: Sunset Hills will be closed for snow farming work tomorrow, please ski elsewhere, every major venue is getting attention tonight and should be good skiing tomorrow! We will be operating a large snowblower at Sunset Hills and will be running snowmobiles around all day to clean up the mess and spread snow.
UPDATE: we picked up a little more snow overnight and Sunset Hills and Highland Glen have been ginzu groomed. Skiing will be soft but good. Highland, being much a much bumpier trail surface, will be a little rough still but cover should be good. Still waiting for an update on Bridger Creek which is in the process of being packed.
5 inches of moist snow is just what we needed for our trails in town. Sunday night, all of Sunset Hills and Highland Glen were rolled and things are already setting into a nice base. Both Sunset Hills and Highland Glen will get work done Monday morning, with the hope being to ginzu groom both and have tracks at Sunset Hills. We will also pack Bridger Creek Monday morning and hopefully ginzu groom it Monday night.
I know people want Sourdough skiing but the lower portion is very rocky and takes a lot of snow to make decent skiing. The plan is to pack Sourdough Monday afternoon/evening but that is not set in stone. Check back for updates.
As always, please keep an eye out for runners on the in town trails and tell them to go elsewhere. We had a lot of runner issues last time we had good snow. All of the trails in town are closed to foot traffic and dogs. The reality is there are few places to ski on a groomed trail compared to the many places to run around Bozeman, feel free to remind any runners of that.
Cheers!
