Hello BSF Community!

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and say how excited I am for this upcoming season!  It was great to meet many of you at the welcome BBQ last week and at this past weeks training sessions.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you as the season unfolds.

SUMMER

Our Devo and Comp team athletes have been busy this summer developing their aerobic base through many hours of training in the mountains and on roller skis.  I have heard a lot of positive feedback from parents, athletes, and coaches about this summer’s training and want to thank everyone for working so hard up to this point.  A big thank you to our interim director, Tim Baucom, and all the coaches - Paul, Julia, Jennie, Hanne, Sawyer, Masha, and Sam - who made this summer so enjoyable.  We will lose some of these coaches to college or other jobs this fall and they will be missed.

COACHING LINEUP

With that said, I am really excited to have a great group of coaches lined up for this fall and winter!  Tim will stick around until November when he will rejoin the US Ski Team, and he will work primarily with our competitive teams alongside Paul Everett, Julia Hayes, and myself.  Jessie Kay has signed on to lead our Devo group along with Jennie Bender, Lauren Potyk, and Sam Nelson.  Erin Renna is back to oversee our Intro Program with Molly Bowman and Sarah Nicholas taking the lead with coaching responsibilities. Finally, Heidi Makoutz will continue to run our Adult programs through the fall and winter.

NEW OPTIONS

BSF has been working hard this summer to reduce the barriers of entry into our sport and create programs that suite people at all stages of development. We added a number of options, including half and full-winter sessions for Intro, and winter-only sessions for our older age groups. Check out our web pages for more information about our new program offerings and to learn more about all our coaches!

You can view/share a printout of all the 2019-20 Nordic options HERE.

FALL PROGRAMS

This September the Devo and Comp teams will build off our summer training and further develop our base with lots of easy skiing, running, and biking.  Technique and agility will remain a focus throughout the fall and as we move towards the winter we will reduce our hours and add a bit more intensity to make sure we are prepared for the racing to come.

TRAIL WORK DAYS

It takes tremendous support from our community to make these programs run, maintain our venues for training, and keep our athletes skiing fast.  To show our commitment to this amazing community, BSF will be helping with several upcoming trail clean-up days.  The first is September 28th and is organized by the Friends of Hyalite.  Please join us as we work to improve the amazing trail network up Hyalite Canyon.

That’s all for now, I look forward to seeing you all on the trails!
