BSF began an exciting new partnership with The Mountain Project this spring. The BSF Nordic U16 and older teams are now doing strength workouts twice a week under the guidance of The Mountain Project's Head Coach and Founder Mike Wolfe.

"We are really excited to be working with BSF and this highly motivated, dedicated, and FUN group of skiers," says Mike. "We plan to work closely with their coaches to build the best strength program possible to assist these skiers achieve their peak capabilities by winter race season."

They've been working on building foundation strength, core strength training, injury prevention, and building back up agility and leg stability. As they progress through summer, they'll cycle in power and plyometric explosiveness.

Thanks to The Mountain Project for partnering with BSF and sharing their expertise. It takes a village--and we're lucky to have so many talented and dedicated community members who collaborate with us.

ABOUT MIKE WOLFE

Mike is a diverse mountain athlete who's probably best known for his mountain ultra-running prowess, but he was also a collegiate Nordic skier. He has paddled 1,600 miles over a period of 90 days across Canada to the Artic Ocean, climbed first ascents on the 3,000-foot granite towers of Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, raced 100-mile mountain bike races, climbed El Capitan in Yosemite numerous times in a single day, snowboarded first descents in Grand Teton National Park, and he has been a passionate big game hunter since a young boy growing up in Montana.

Mike has been racing competitively as a professional mountain ultra-runner for over a decade.  He has competed in over 100 ultra-distance mountain races around the world. Among the many races he has competed in, he holds numerous course records, and has placed top-3 at the world’s most competitive and prestigious mountain races: the Western States 100, the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc, and the North Face 50-mile Championship.

Mike’s commitment to the mountain sport community is evidenced by The Rut Mountain Runs in Big Sky, Montana.  Mike created and designed the races along with Mike Foote.  The two now race direct one of the most technical mountain running race in world, and the only event in North America that is part of the International Skyrunner Federation Ultra World Series.

Mike has trained and worked at several gyms over the years with top coaches and athletes dedicated to training for mountain sport pursuits. He currently specializes in coaching mountain sports athletes, teaching sport-specific classes at The Mountain Project, and working with youth training for mountain sports.

In addition to being a professional mountain athlete and coach, Mike loves spending time with his amazing wife Stephanie and his kids Colt and Wren. Mike is also a practicing attorney. Previous to taking a break from the full-time practice of law, Mike was a federal prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
