Dear BSF Families, It's time to think snow! Youth Ski League is back - with changes to bring better instruction (and more fun!) to your kids. We hope you'll join us!

Nordic YSL 2016

Youth Ski League is now Intro!

We have restructured all our Nordic (or cross country) youth ski programs to offer more consistent instruction - while still having fun, of course. We've beefed up our Youth Ski League, renamed it "Intro" and integrated it better with our Development ("Devo") and Competitive ("Comp") programs geared for older youths. The goal for our Intro skiers remains unchanged: Introduce kids to cross-country skiing and set them up for a lifetime of enjoyment with the sport. (Read more about the changes here.)

We're using a "U" (or "under") age taxonomy for Intro:

  • U6s: five-year-olds
  • U8s: six- and seven-year-olds
  • U10s: eight- and nine-year-olds
  • U12s: 10- and 11-year-olds

Kids 12 and older ski with the Devo/Comp team - information and registration here.

As before, we'll offer instruction on skate and classic style cross-country skiing for U10 and older skiers. U6s and U8s only learn classic. We have rental skate skis available on a first-come basis for older skiers.

Season dates and times

We want to offer more time on snow for our older skiers. We've learned that kids enjoy the sport more (and progress faster) with longer, more consistent instruction.

Older Intro skiers - U10s and U12s - ski twice a week and start Dec. 5. We'll meet with our Devo cohorts for the first half-our of each lesson, then go off in smaller groups. We no longer offer a one-day-per-week option for kids age 8 and up.

Younger Intro skiers - U6s and U8s - start the week of Jan. 9. We'll keep them in small groups as in the past, and they can ski just one day a week. They have the option of skiing twice a week.

The last week of skiing for all kids is Feb. 27.

Older skiers can ski with their Devo teamates through spring break (March 12-17).

Skiers meet Tuesdays and/or Thursdays in town from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays we meet at Bohart Ski Ranch (Intro skiers need a $50 Bohart pass) from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
