BSF & MSU Host Full Weekend of Racing
March 3, 2024
Coach Aubrey LeClair

The BSF Nordic Comp and Devo teams wrapped up their final IMD races on home turf at Crosscut during the last weekend of February. The IMD Tune Up (held in conunction with the collegiate RMISA Championships and Sit Ski races) demonstrated the depth of BSF and the Bozeman nordic community as a whole. U8/10 through the Pro team athletes were spotted repping BSF suits and persevering through some tricky conditions on the Crosscut trails. Athletes exhibited tenacity and optimism as they glided through three days of less-than-ideal ski conditions.

The classic sprint on Friday boasted a BSF athlete in nearly every quarterfinal. Siblings, Cal and Izzy Waters, took away decisive wins in their U18/20 and U16 finals respectively, and BSF athletes were present in every single final heat.

During Saturday’s skate distance race, U16+ athletes raced a FIS 7.5k course alongside RMISA collegiate athletes. Conditions were slushy and quite blustery, but the smiles were there and the cheering was off the charts.

Sunday’s relay was a great reminder of why skiing is a team sport. The sheer number of BSF athletes made relay logistics challenging, leading to a few mixed age group and club teams. Everyone handled it like a champ to embrace working with older/younger BSF teammates in addition to athletes from other clubs. The relay results had a number of BSF team podiums across all age groups.

The Comp and Devo teams now part ways to finish up their respective season’s at Junior Nationals, Western Club Championships, and Youth Championships.

Thank you to everyone who supported athletes and coaches alike at the race in Bozeman, it could not have happened without everyone’s diligent efforts and support. Thanks to race sponsors Intermountain Health, Skin Care MT, Bequet Caramel, and the Lark.
